At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,

And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

qui dit à ses serviteurs : " Celui-là est Jean le Baptiste ! Le voilà ressuscité des morts : d' où les pouvoirs miraculeux qui se déploient en sa personne ! "

For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip' s wife.

For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.

Car Jean lui disait : " Il ne t' est pas permis de l' avoir. "

And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

Il avait même voulu le tuer, mais avait craint la foule, parce qu' on le tenait pour un prophète.

But when Herod' s birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

Or, comme Hérode célébrait son anniversaire de naissance, la fille d' Hérodiade dansa en public et plut à Hérode

Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.

And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath' s sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.

And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.

And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.

Les disciples de Jean vinrent prendre le cadavre et l' enterrèrent ; puis ils allèrent informer Jésus.

When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.

L' ayant appris, Jésus se retira en barque dans un lieu désert, à l'écart ; ce qu' apprenant, les foules partirent à sa suite, venant à pied des villes.

And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

Ary nony nivoaka Jesosy, dia nahita vahoaka betsaka, ary onena azy ka nahasitrana ny marariny.

Rahefa niala tao an-tsambo izy, dia nangoraka nahita ireto vahoaka betsaka, ka nositraniny ny marary teo aminy.

En débarquant, il vit une foule nombreuse et il en eut pitié ; et il guérit leurs infirmes.

And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.

Le soir venu, les disciples s' approchèrent et lui dirent : " L' endroit est désert et l' heure est déjà passée ; renvoie donc les foules afin qu' elles aillent dans les villages s' acheter de la nourriture. "

But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.

Fa hoy Jesosy taminy: Tsy tokony handeha izy; omeonareo hanina izy.

Fa hoy Jeso taminy: Tsy tokony handeha izy, fa omeo hanina.

Mais Jésus leur dit : " Il n' est pas besoin qu' elles y aillent ; donnez-leur vous-mêmes à manger. " -

And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.

Fa hoy ny mpianany taminy: Tsy misy atý aminay, afa-tsy mofo dimy sy hazandrano roa.

Dia hoy ireo taminy: Tsy misy afa-tsy mofo dimy sy hazandrano roa atý aminay.

" Mais, lui disent-ils, nous n' avons ici que cinq pains et deux poissons. " Il dit :

He said, Bring them hither to me.

Ary hoy Izy: Ento eto amiko izany.

" Apportez-les-moi ici. "

And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

Dia nasainy nipetraka tamin' ny ahitra ny vahoaka, ary noraisiny ny mofo dimy sy ny hazandrano roa, dia niandrandra ny lanitra izy ka nitso-drano; ary nony efa novakiny ny mofo dia nomeny ny mpianany, ka nozarain' ny mpianany tamin' ny vahoaka.

Et, ayant donné l' ordre de faire étendre les foules sur l' herbe, il prit les cinq pains et les deux poissons, leva les yeux au ciel, bénit, puis, rompant les pains, il les donna aux disciples, qui les donnèrent aux foules.

And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.

And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.

Or ceux qui mangèrent étaient environ cinq mille hommes, sans compter les femmes et les enfants.

And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

Et aussitôt il obligea les disciples à monter dans la barque et à le devancer sur l' autre rive, pendant qu' il renverrait les foules.

And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

Ary rehefa noravany ny vahoaka, dia niakatra tao an-tendrombohitra Izy mba hitokana hivavaka; ary nony hariva ny andro, dia nitoetra irery teo Izy.

Et quand il eut renvoyé les foules, il gravit la montagne, à l'écart, pour prier. Le soir venu, il était là, seul.

But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.

La barque, elle, se trouvait déjà éloignée de la terre de plusieurs stades, harcelée par les vagues, car le vent était contraire.

And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

A la quatrième veille de la nuit, il vint vers eux en marchant sur la mer.

And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

Ary nony nahita Azy nitsangantsangana tambonin' ny ranomasina ny mpianatra, dia raiki-tahotra ka nanao hoe: Matoatoa io; dia niantso izy noho ny tahotra.

Les disciples, le voyant marcher sur la mer, furent troublés : " C' est un fantôme ", disaient-ils, et pris de peur ils se mirent à crier.

But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

Ary Jesosy niteny taminy niaraka tamin' izay hoe: Matokia, fa Izaho ihany, aza matahotra.

Niaraka tamin' izay dia niteny taminy Jeso nanao hoe: Matokia, fa izaho ihany, ka aza matahotra.

Mais aussitôt Jésus leur parla en disant : " Ayez confiance, c' est moi, soyez sans crainte. "

And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

" Viens ", dit Jésus. Et Pierre, descendant de la barque, se mit à marcher sur les eaux et vint vers Jésus.

But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

Fa raha nahita ny rivotra izy, dia natahotra, ary raha vao nilentika izy, dia niantso hoe: Tompo ô, vonjeo aho!

Kanjo nony hitany fa nahery ny rivotra, dia natahotra izy; ary nony nanomboka nilentika izy dia niantso mafy nanao hoe: Tompo ô! vonjeo aho.

Mais, voyant le vent, il prit peur et, commençant à couler, il s'écria : " Seigneur, sauve-moi ! "

And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

Ary naninjitra ny tànany niaraka tamin' izay Jesosy, dia nandray azy ka nanao taminy hoe: Ry kely finoana, nahoana no niahanahana ianao?

Niaraka tamin' izay naninji-tànana Jeso, dia nandray azy, ka nanao taminy hoe: Ry kely finoana, nahoana no nisalasala hianao?

Aussitôt Jésus tendit la main et le saisit, en lui disant : " Homme de peu de foi, pourquoi as-tu douté ? "

And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

Ary rehefa niakatra teo an-tsambokely izy, dia nitsahatra ny rivotra.

Ary rahefa niakatra teo an-tsambo izy ireo, dia nitsahatra ny rivotra.

Et quand ils furent montés dans la barque, le vent tomba.

Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

Ceux qui étaient dans la barque se prosternèrent devant lui, en disant : " Vraiment, tu es Fils de Dieu ! "

And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.

Ayant achevé la traversée, ils touchèrent terre à Gennésaret.

And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;

Ary nony nahafantatra Azy ny tompon-tany teo, dia naniraka tany amin' ny tany rehetra manodidina izy ka nitondra ny marary rehetra ho eo aminy.

Les gens de l' endroit, l' ayant reconnu, mandèrent la nouvelle à tout le voisinage, et on lui présenta tous les malades :

And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.

Ary nangataka taminy ireo mba hamela azy hanendry na dia ny somotraviavin-dambany ihany aza; koa na iza na iza no nanendry dia sitrana tokoa.

on le priait de les laisser simplement toucher la frange de son manteau, et tous ceux qui touchèrent furent sauvés.
